Did you know that gold bars have been used as a medium of exchange and payment for approximately 4000 years? Nowadays, gold bars play a significant role as an investment or for crisis hedging. However, they differ from investment coins, which were introduced later, in that they do not have a stamped nominal value.
Prominently in the viewer’s focus, you will recognize the logo of Münze Österreich AG at the top center. Below it, in large letters, are the words “MÜNZE ÖSTERREICH,” as well as “20g FINE GOLD,” “999.9.” In the frame, you read “MELTER ASSAYER,” which translates to “Tester and Melter.”
About the “Austrian Mint”
This company was established in 1989 when the Austrian Mint was converted into a stock corporation and subsequently sold to the Austrian National Bank (Oesterreichische Nationalbank, as per the official and correct spelling). However, the actual history of the company begins in the 12th century.
