50 Chilean Pesos Liberty Gold 1926-1980
The Chilean 50 peso Liberty gold coin was first minted in 1926 and was continuously produced as a bullion coin until 1980. The coin weighs a total of 10.1698g with a gold content of 9.15g, the equivalent of 0.2943 troy ounces of pure gold. It has a diameter of 24mm and a purity of 90.00%. This makes the coin a good choice for collectors and investors alike.
In addition to the 50 peso gold coin, coins with a face value of 100 pesos and 20 Chilean pesos were also minted. One of their common features is the design, which is identical on all coins apart from the face value. The obverse shows a female head with braided hair and a laurel wreath turned to the left, dressed in a characteristic Chilean dress. The words ‘REPUBLICA DE CHILE’ can also be read on the obverse in the upper semicircle of the gold coin.
The reverse shows the Chilean emblem, a shield with a five-pointed star in the centre.
The shield is supported by two crowned animals and the inscriptions ‘CIEN PESOS 50 PS CINCO CONDORES’ and the mintmark, which represents the Santiago de Chile Mint, are inscribed in a semicircle around it. At the bottom of the Chilean 50 peso Liberty gold coin is also the year ‘1967’, the year in which it was minted.
