1 oz China Panda | Gold | Mixed Years

The Panda Gold Coin has been issued by the Chinese Central Bank since 1982. It is a high-purity coin with a gold content of 99.9%, available in denominations of 1/20, 1/10, 1/4, 1/2, and 1 oz.

The obverse of the coin features the denomination and an image of a panda bear. The annually changing design, created using a sophisticated minting technique developed specifically for this coin, makes it particularly attractive to collectors. The first issue in 1982 did not have a face value; from 1983, the nominal face value of the 1 oz China Panda coin was 100 Yuan, which was increased to 500 Yuan in 2001. This increase in face value reflects the steady rise in the price of gold and, consequently, the value of the China Panda in gold.

The different denominations are:

– 1 oz: 500 Yuan

– 1/2 oz: 200 Yuan

– 1/4 oz: 100 Yuan

– 1/10 oz: 50 Yuan

– 1/20 oz: 20 Yuan

The reverse of the coin consistently features the Temple of Heaven in Beijing. The edge design with the inscription and the minting year varies depending on the year, with three distinct variants: from 1982-1991, from 1992-1999, and from 2000 to the present.

The China Panda Gold Coin was the first coin to be issued in a 1/20 oz denomination.

Another notable feature was the 1g Panda coin issued in 1991 to mark the tenth anniversary of the China Panda Gold coin, with a face value of just 3 Yuan.

Introduced by the People’s Bank of China in 1997, the 1 kg Panda coin was issued in very limited quantities—initially 58 pieces—and was limited to 200 pieces in 2007 and 2008, making it extremely rare and highly prized in the market.
