There you see it again: the kangaroo, one of Australia’s heraldic
animals alongside the emu. It is also interesting to note that both
animals can only move forwards, which promptly makes them a symbol of
progress! The Australian airline Quantas Airways is also adorned with
the emblem of the kangaroo, although in this case it has been given a
streamlined appearance – fitting for an airline.

The particularly renowned Australian mint “The Perth Mint” depicts
these animals on the coin series, which has been given a new kangaroo
motif every year since 1990.

Obverse

On it you can see a kangaroo in a typical Australian landscape of the
outback. The prevailing extreme temperatures and other extremely harsh
conditions are particularly significant here. This is also indicated by
the very sculpturally designed stone floor on which the kangaroo is
standing. On the left-hand side you can see a structure that looks like a
windmill. However, it is actually a water pump with a windmill that
pumps water for the herds of cattle. The kangaroo is “framed” by the
words “2024 1/4 oz 9999 GOLD”, followed by the word “KANGAROO” in
capital letters. You will recognize “P125” at approximately the height
of the animal’s tail. The Perth Mint has erected a monument to itself
here, as this combination of letters and numbers is intended to
commemorate the 125th anniversary of this mint.

Reverse

You can see the likeness of the new English King Charles III, who,
unlike his mother, Elizabeth II, is looking to the left. If you look
closely, you will see the initials “DT” at about shoulder height. This
is the name Dane Thorne, a product designer at the British mint “The
Royal Mint”. The inscriptions “CHARLES III” “AUSTRALIA” and the face
value “15 DOLLARS” appear around the coin. The fine weight of the coin
is 7.775875g.
